the jabber.cc server supports encrypted connections to clients as well as servers. to encrypt your connection to jabber.cc, you need to either select 'ssl' in your client and set the connection port to 5223 or select 'sasl', 'starttls' or something like that and use port 5222. the exact settings depend on your client software.

you might also want to import the root certificate of CAcert who signed the jabber.cc certificate. this allows your client software to verify the authenticity of our certificates. also, most clients moan about valid certificates if they are unable to verify them. again, installation of root certificates depends very much on the client software you use.

psi requires the certificate to be in a special format. linux users copy it to ~/.psi/certs, on windows it goes into the 'certs' subfolder of your psi installation folder.

there is also a list of servers which support encrypted server-to-server connections and with which jabber.cc was able to establish one.
